INDICTMENT ISSUED AGAINST SAFET BRKIĆ (1986) FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE ACTIVITIES OF A TERRORIST GROUP IN SYRIA

A Prosecutor of the Section for Terrorism in the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption within the BiH Prosecutor’s Office issued an indictment against:

Safet Brkić, born on January 18, 1986 in Sarajevo, residing in Olovo, a citizen of BiH.

The accused is charged with having participated in terrorist activities, provided assistance to a terrorist group and fought together with other persons from Bosnia and Herzegovina who stayed in Syria on the side of ISIL in Syria, in the unit "Muhajirs Ansar".

As alleged in the indictment, the accused Safet Brkić has travelled in mid May 2013 to Istanbul from where he illegally crossed the border between Turkey and Syria and went to Syria in the city Haritan, where he resided illegally until March 2014. He came to the city of Haritan with the intent to fight on the side of the so-called Islamic State organized on the territory of Syria and Iraq and the terrorist organization Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) operating in Syria and Iraq, which are on the list of terrorist groups and organizations of the United Nations Security Council.

The accused is charged with the criminal offense of Organizing a Terrorist Group under Article 202d (2) in connection with (1) of the CC BiH.

The indictment will be sent for confirmation to the Court of BiH.
