EXHUMATION OF THE BODIES OF VICTIMS KILLED IN THE PAST WAR CARRIED OUT IN GORAŽDE MUNICIPALITY

At the site of Vitkovići, in the Municipality of Goražde, an exhumation has been carried out under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and complete mortal remains of one person have been exhumed, as well as incomplete mortal remains of another person.

The found skeletal remains will be transported to the ossuary of the Sveti Marko Public Utilities Enterprise in Istočno Sarajevo /East Sarajevo/, where forensic analysis will be performed, the cause of death will be determined and bone samples will be taken for the DNA analysis in order to establish the victims’ identity.

The exhumation process was supervised in the field by an Investigator of the Special Department for War Crimes of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, whereas representatives of the BiH Institute for Missing Persons, an expert forensic pathologist and police officers of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) were also participating in the process of exhumation.

The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, along with institutions involved in the process of tracing missing persons in Bosnia and Herzegovina, continues its activities in the process of conducting exhumations and tracing missing persons in all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
