IDENTIFICATION OF VICTIMS RECOVERED FROM THE MASS GRAVE TOMAŠICA LOCATED IN PRIJEDOR MUNICIPALITY CONTINUES IN SANSKI MOST

On April 16, 2014 the identification of the victims found during the excavation at the site of Tomašica in the municipality of Prijedor continued at the Center for Identification Šejkovača located in Sanski Most. 

In agreement with the families of the victims the identification process began on February 14, 2014 following the arrival of the first results of the DNA analysis.

During the course of the identification process 49 victims exhumed from the mass grave Tomašica were identified to date.

Identification of the victims will continue for the next six days and will end on Wednesday April 23, 2014.

On April 16, 2014 eight persons were identified

The process continued with the arrival of new DNA findings, which should enable the final identification of about 50 victims of war crimes committed in the area of Prijedor.

The discovery and identification of the victims is an important process for the victims' families, who  have been searching for their loved ones for more than two decades, but it is also of great importance for the Prosecutor's Office because it concerns evidence in investigations and cases related to war crimes committed in Prijedor and the surrounding area.

The Prosecutor's Office of BiH is now searching for information on additional micro-locations in the area at which more remains of victims from the Prijedor area are expected to be found. Excavations will continue at this site as soon as new information concerning possible locations of the victims is obtained.

The process of identification of the victims is attended by an Investigator of the Special Department for War Crimes within the Prosecutor's Office of BiH.
