The Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH - Goran Salihović and the Director of the Indirect Taxation Authority - Miro Džakula, held a meeting at which they agreed specific activities on the formation of a special team, modeled on the work of USKOK in the Republic of Croatia.
A team of eight specialized employees of ITA was agreed upon at the meeting as well as the coordinator of the team, who will work with the Head of the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption and the Prosecutors of the Section for Economic Crime within the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, on detecting and prosecuting criminal offenses of Tax Evasion and Failure to Pay Taxes.
This manner of work, modeled on USKOK in Croatia, will ensure a more efficient fight against Tax Evasions, which are harmful to the budget of BiH and all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The team of ITA employees will be in constant contact with the Prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and cooperate directly and daily in investigations aimed at detecting tax evasion. Employees with extensive experience in prosecution of financial and economic crime were selected from both institutions to work together and carry out activities aiming to identify and punish tax evasion, as well as to work on the recovery of evaded tax amounts to the budget of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Director of ITA - Mr. Džakula informed the Chief Prosecutor that ITA will soon submit to the Prosecutor’s Office the extensive report, which the prosecutor’s office requested, concerning companies and taxpayers who owe the state the amount of BAM 296 million, and will work to arrange further activities on the processing of natural and legal persons for which there exist evidence that they have committed a criminal offense.
Intensive cooperation of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and ITA BiH will continue in the future with the aim of detection and prosecution of perpetrators of tax evasion and the recovery of evaded money in the budget of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
