EXCAVATIONS AT THE LOCATION OF TOMAŠICA IN THE PRIJEDOR AREA CONTINUE

11.11.2013. 15:18

Excavations at a new site near the primary mass grave site Tomašica in the municipality of Prijedor continue.

It is assumed that this primary mass grave contains the bodies of Bosniak and Croat victims from the area of Prijedor, who were killed in the summer of 1992.

Excavations at the new site, located a few meters away from the primary mass grave, will show whether this is a new micro location in which the bodies of victims were buried. At this point efforts are being invested to remove the top 3 to 5 meters deep layer of the soil piled at the spot. Traces found here match the traces found at the site of the primary mass grave, but only further excavation will show whether victims were buried at this spot or not.

The remains of all recovered bodies will be transferred to the Identification Center Šejkovača in Sanski Most and will remain there until the end of forensic analysis and identification process.

The exhumation is attended by the representatives of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), representatives of the BiH Missing Persons Institute, representatives of the RS MoI, a doctor specializing in forensic medicine and an investigator of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH.

An Investigator of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH is out in the field, the whole time, coordinating the efforts of all those involved in the exhumation process.

The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and other institutions involved in the exhumation process are undertaking intensive activities in order to secure the location and organize the process of exhumation, as well as the subsequent forensic processing and identification.

The exhumation process continues.
