Prosecutor of the Regional Team I of the Special Department for War Crimes within the Prosecutor's Office of BiH issued an indictment against Kahro VEJZOVIĆ, born on May 23, 1970 in Kladanj municipality where he resides, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Kahro VEJZOVIĆ, who was an active police officer at the time, is charged to have, during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the armed conflict between the RS Army and members of the Territorial Defense of BiH - to be exact during the period from May 19, 1992 to August 13, 1992, acted contrary to the Geneva Conventions relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War i.e. to have both alone and together with other members of the Stupar Police Station, starting from the month of June in 1992 interrogated male Serb civilians deliberately inflicting severe physical and mental pain and suffering (torture) and violating bodily integrity and health.
Serb civilians including men, women and children were unlawfully incarcerated by members of the Stupar PS in apartments in the teachers' building and building of the old local community office located near the elementary school "Petar Markovic" in Stupari in Kladanj from the end of May 1992 to July 21, 1993, where they were interrogated and tortured. Interrogations were conducted in the aforementioned teachers' buildings, and the old local community office, as well as in the elementary school in Stupari, Stupar PS, and occasionally at some locations in the villages of Local Community Stupari (Olovci and Lupoglav).
The accused VEJZOVIĆ has, during the aforementioned period at the aforementioned locations, tortured the detained Serb civilians in various ways, by hitting them in the head with fists, boots, batons, rifle butts, putting a gun and a knife to their throats, threatening them, forcing them to eat paper, hitting them in the groin. He smashed the teeth of one civilian and forced him to swallow and extinguished his cigarettes on the tongue of another. One Serb civilian committed suicide after the torture to which he was exposed, due to fear of further beatings and torture.
The indictment also alleges that during the interrogation and torture of Serb civilians the accused VEJZOVIĆ cursed their mothers and said, "I am beating you because you're a Serb, because your name is Radovan, we slaughter even Serb cats, we'll drive you all out across the Drina."
The accused Kahro VEJZOVIĆ is charged to have committed the criminal offense of War Crimes against Civilians under Article 173, Paragraph 1, Subparagraph c) of the CC BiH, in conjunction with Article 180, Paragraph 1 of the CC BiH, in conjunction with Article 29 of the Criminal Code of BiH.
The indictment was forwarded to the Court of BiH for confirmation.
