The coordinating meeting of the BiH Law Enforcement Agency Directors and the Chief Prosecutor was organized by the European Union Police Mission (EUPM) in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In lieiu of the completion of the mandate of EUPM in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the coordinating meeting participants expressed their gratitude to EUPM for all the efforts and activities the Mission has spent during the past nine years to help the police structures in the post-Dayton Bosnia and Herzegovina.
All coordinating meeting participants concluded that EUPM has certainly achieved significant results in police reform and the strengthening of police capacities in Bosnia and Herzegovina aiming to allow for a more efficient fight against all forms of crime and improvement of the cooperation between police agencies operating in BiH, and has implemented many activities to improve the security and living environment for all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Meeting participants were addressed by H.E. Peter Sorensen, Head of the EU Delegation and Special EU Representative, who spoke about the future activities in the field of law enforcement, including the IPA project for law enforcement and the Department for law enforcement in the Office of the EUSR.
EUPM Commissioner Stefan Feller, addressed the participants of the meeting in his welcome speech and stated that he believes Bosnia and Herzegovina shall further continue its activities aimed at strengthening the cooperation between police agencies in the process of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European integration.
During their two-day meeting the participants of the coordinating meeting were joined by H.E. Patrick Moon - U.S. Ambassador to BiH, H.E. Jonathan E. Moore - Deputy U.S. Ambassador to BiH, H. E. Peter Sorensen - Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH.
Regular coordination meetings of the Police Directors and the Chief Prosecutor include the following attendees:
- Acting Chief Prosecutor of the BiH Prosecutor’s Office
- Director of the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies in BiH
- Director of the State Investigation and Protection Agency - SIPA
- Director of the BIH Border Police
- Director of the Service for Foreigners Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina
- Secretary of the Ministry of Security of BiH
- Director of the of Federation BiH Police Directorate
- Director of RS Police
- Chief of Police of Brčko District BiH
- Representative of the Federation BiH Cantonal MoI Police Commissioners
- Head of EUPM and EUPM officials
- Representatives of ICITAP and the U.S. Embassy in BiH.
Representatives of other police, security and judicial agencies in BiH shall attend the coordination meetings of the Police Directors and Chief Prosecutor, when necessary.
The meetings are organized pursuant to the rotation system by directors and head officials of the institutions involved in coordination.
The EUPM in BiH hosted the meeting in Sarajevo.
