An exhumation was carried out in Bijeljina municipality on March 30, 2012 resulting with the uncovery of skeletal remains of a victim from the past war.
The exhumation was carried out at the location of Pilakuša Muslim cemetery in Bijeljina municipality under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH. Bone samples were taken for DNA analysis. It is assumed that the remains belong to one missing person.
Following the recovery the remains were transported to the Identification Centre in Tuzla for further forensic processing and DNA analysis aiming to establish the identity.
The exhumation process was supervised by an investigator of the Special Department for War Crimes within the Prosecutor's Office of BiH and attended by representatives of the BiH Institute for Missing Persons, a doctor working in the field of forensic medicine – an expert pathologist, workers of the Commemorative Centre Tuzla with machines as well as RS MoI Police Officers.
The Prosecutor's Office of BiH, along with other law enforcement agencies and institutions involved in the process of tracing the missing persons in BiH and their identification, continues its activities in the process of exhumation of the remains of war crimes victims in all parts of BiH.
