MEETING OF THE TASK FORCE FOR FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM AND STRENGTHENING THE CAPACITY FOR FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM HELD

The central topics were the work and activities of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and partner judicial, police, security and law enforcement agencies in the fight against terrorism and the threat of terrorism in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

MEETING OF THE TASK FORCE FOR FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM AND STRENGTHENING THE CAPACITY FOR FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM HELD

The Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, Gordana Tadić, chaired the meeting of the Task Force, which was held in the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and attended by senior officials from judicial institutions, as well as police and security agencies and law enforcement institutions from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Entities and the Brčko District of BiH.

At the meeting, Chief Prosecutor Tadić presented the work and results of the Task Force, which is entering the eighteenth year of its work and activity this year.

The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, working together with partner institutions, filed indictments against 63 persons for terrorism-related criminal offences. Of this number, proceedings against 51 people are final and trials are ongoing in cases for another 12 defendants. Sentences of nearly 180 years in prison were handed down.

A high percentage of judgments in terrorism cases were convictions, about 95% of them, and in cases of BiH citizens taking part in foreign battlefields and joining foreign paramilitary and parapolice formations in Syria and Iraq, all judgments were convictions.

The meeting of the Task Force discussed the work and activities within the detection and prosecution of terrorist offences, participation in the global anti-terrorist coalition, prevention of terrorist activities and the threat of terrorism, as well as the process of deradicalisation and resocialization of the persons who were involved in terrorism-related activities.

The participants at the meeting presented the situation in this area in the institutions they came from, and it was agreed to continue good cooperation between prosecutors, police, security and law enforcement agencies in the fight against terrorism and the threat of terrorism in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the future.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of international institutions involved in counter-terrorism activities.
