AFGHAN NATIONALS SUSPECTED OF INTERNATIONAL SMUGGLING OF MIGRANTS HANDED OVER TO BIH PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE

Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina will conduct the questioning of the two suspected Afghan nationals whom he has taken over from the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina. These suspects were deprived of liberty in the wider area of Zvornik while they were smuggling six illegal migrants across the Drina River and transporting them by boat from Serbia to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The suspects were deprived of their liberty when they crossed into the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and they are under investigation due to the suspicion that, in agreement with persons known to them from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as persons from the migrant population, they were engaged in organized smuggling of persons who do not meet the conditions for a lawful entry into Bosnia and Herzegovina, with an aim of their further smuggling to EU countries, and in order to acquire unlawful material gain.

After questioning of the suspects, the Prosecutor in charge of the case will put forward a motion for ordering custody, given that these are foreign nationals who would become unavailable to the Bosnia and Herzegovina judiciary should they leave the country.
