Pursuant to the order of the Prosecutor from the Special Department for War Crimes, police officers of Border Police of BiH and State Investigation and Protection Agency -SIPA have jointly identified and arrested Milenko Gojgolović, born in 1955 in Vlasenica, at the border crossing Karakaj.

The suspect is under investigation and is alleged to have committed a war crime of rape and sexual abuse in Vlasenica municipality, in the summer of 1992, in Sušica detention camp where Bosniak civilians were unlawfully detained.

Following the arrest, the suspect was handed over to the assigned prosecutor, who will investigate the suspect and file a motion for remand in custody.

This case is important in the fight against the impunity of war crimes of rape and sexual abuse in BiH.

The suspect has spent a long period of time overseas, and was hence inaccessible to the judiciary of BiH. He was identified and deprived of liberty after a short stay in BiH.

The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, together with partner police and security agencies in BiH and abroad, is working intensively on finding and prosecuting war crimes suspects that are located abroad.
