SUSPECT RAMIZ DREKOVIĆ (1956) DEPRIVED OF LIBERTY UPON ORDER OF PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

The suspect is under investigation for a war crime committed in the Kalinovik area in 1995.

SUSPECT RAMIZ DREKOVIĆ (1956) DEPRIVED OF LIBERTY UPON ORDER OF PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

Upon an order of a prosecutor from the Special Department for War Crimes, SIPA officers deprived of liberty the following suspect in the Sarajevo area:

- Ramiz Dreković, born on 10.05.1956. in Tutin, Serbia.

The suspect is under investigation of the Special Department for War Crimes and is suspected that he, as a former commander of the 4th Corps of the Army of the Republic of BiH (RBiH Army), acted contrary to the provisions of the Geneva Conventions on Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.

The suspect is charged with issuing a direct, strictly confidential command to artillery units in the general area of the municipality of Konjic in the spring of 1995 to carry out non-selective shelling of Kalinovik inhabited by Serb population.

Following the issued command, the ARBiH artillery units carried out the shelling from artillery weapons of huge devastating power, on several occasions in the course of May and June 1995 and, as a result of the shelling, a fifteen-year child was killed and several other children and adults were more or less severely wounded. The shelling caused a large-scale destruction of property and facilities.

The suspect is charged with the criminal offense of War Crimes against Civilians.

After having been summoned to appear before the prosecutor on the case, the suspect will be examined and thereafter a decision on further activities in the case will be made.
