INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR WAR CRIMES COMMITTED IN BIHAĆ AREA

Prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued an Indictment against the following persons:  

INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR WAR CRIMES COMMITTED IN BIHAĆ AREA

-  Adil Vojić, born on 05 January 1971 in Orašac, in the Municipality of Bihać, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and

- Bekir Mešić, born on 09 May 1962 in Orašac, in the Municipality of Bihać, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The aforementioned accused persons are charged with acting, as members of the 501st Brigade of the 5th Corps of the RBiH Army, during the war and armed conflict between the Republika Srpska Army and the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina in a wider territory of Bihać region, in violation of the Geneva Conventions relative to the protection of civilian persons in time of war, by coming armed with automatic rifles together with several other persons to the house of a female Serb victim and another male Serb and forcibly taking them from their house, in the night of 01 to 02 May 1994.   

After taking them to a nearby field, these accused persons raped the woman-victim in turns, threatening her with her life, while, not far away from that place, one of the members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina was keeping at gunpoint the man they had also brought with them, telling him that they had brought them there to kill them. 

Subsequently, they brought that Serb man there as well and they beat him, humiliated him and forced him to a sexual intercourse with the woman- victim.  

Adil Vojić and Bekir Mešić are charged with the commission of the criminal offense of War Crimes against Civilians, as referred to in Article 173, Paragraph 1, item e) of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in conjunction with Article 29 of the same Code.

The Indictment has been forwarded to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina for confirmation.
