ACTING CHIEF PROSECUTOR GORDANA TADIĆ PRESENTED ON PROSECUTION OF TERRORISM IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

It was emphasized that 42 persons have been indicted to date for the criminal offenses of terrorism and crimes related to terrorism and terrorist activities, such as departures of BiH citizens to foreign battlefields
The percentage of convictions was 92% as only four accused persons were acquitted of all charges in the past 14 years in the cases pertaining to Unlawful Establishing and Joining Foreign Paramilitary and Para-police Formations related to departures of BiH citizens to foreign battlefields of Syria and Iraq and their subsequent joining to the structures of the so-called ’ISIS’; there were no acquittals in such cases which speaks volumes about the seriousness and quality of work of the Prosecutor’s Office and partner police and security agencies.
In the previous period final sentences of imprisonment totaling to 150 years were rendered for the criminal offenses of Terrorism. The maximum sentence was rendered to Haris ČauševiĆ for the bombing of a police station in Bugojno, in 2010. He received a sentence of 35 years in prison which is the maximum sentence for terrorism in BiH and the region.
A total of 23 persons were sentenced for departures to foreign battlefields and joining the formations of the so-called ’ISIS’ and have received a total of 50 years in prison. The maximum sentence was rendered to Husein Bosnić aka Bilal - a 7 year imprisonment.
It was pointed out that there are ongoing investigations against several persons suspected of criminal offenses related to terrorism, as well as one investigation in a case related to nationals of Bosnia and Herzegovina participating in a foreign battlefield in Ukraine.
