CHIEF PROSECUTOR OF THE PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE OF BIH IN AN OFFICIAL VISIT TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Strengthening of capacities for fight against corruption and organized crime, as well as for war crimes prosecution in BiH and regional and international cooperation of Prosecutors, are the main topics of the discussion between the Chief Prosecutor and high-ranking officials of the US judiciary and police.

The Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, Mr. Goran Salihović, is visiting the United States of America, and during this visit he will meet the highest-ranking officials of judicial and security institutions in USA.

 

The Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH had a meeting in Washington with Mr. James Cole, United States Deputy Attorney General. During this meeting, the support of the United States of America to the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH in prosecution of war crimes, corruption, organized crime and terrorism was reiterated.

 

Moreover, the Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH had a meeting in Washington with Mr. Stephen Rapp, US Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Issues, who emphasized his support to the strengthening of regional cooperation and assisting the strengthening of prosecutorial capacities in the context of a more efficient prosecution of war crimes cases.  

 

During the visit to the US Department of State, the Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH also talked to Mr. Jonathan Moore, Deputy Assistant Secretary to the Office of South Central European Affairs. Mr. Moore explicitly noted that there were no obstacles, but only a clear support of the Government of the United States of America to the prosecution of persons suspected of, and indicted for, the crimes  of corruption, organized crime and terrorism.

 

The Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH also talked to Mr. William R. Brownfield, Director of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs. In the course of their conversation, important areas for cooperation and strengthening of prosecutorial capacities in several segments were recognized, which are of particular importance to the implementation of the rule of law.
