INFORMATION OF THE PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE OF BIH IN RESPONSE TO THE MEDIA QUESTION REGARDING THE CURRENT ACTIVITIES IN FINDING MASS GRAVES WITH MORTAL REMAINS OF WAR CRIMES VICTIMS
02.08.2013. 14:40During the official visit to the United States of America in May this year, and in several contacts with international and national officials, the Chief Prosecutor requested assistance in finding mass graves through satellite imagery.
It would be of great assistance to this process if existing images could be provided or, if necessary, new images of possible mass grave locations made, so that mortal remains that have been searched for since the end of the war in BiH could be found as soon as possible.
The aforementioned assistance is of extreme importance because the search for mass grave sites by using current methods could last for decades, and that is not in the best interest of justice.
The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH will use this opportunity as well to appeal to all the citizens in possession of information on mass grave sites and locations of the victims’ mortal remains to submit such information to the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH.
Since this issue is extremely important for the work on war crimes cases and in view of the fact that the process of finding and conducting exhumations of mortal remains requires substantial resources, the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH will request that additional funds for this purpose be provided by the budget for the next year.
